Teaching Philosophy

“In my forty plus years of teaching, I have been fortunate to have worked with several talented young people who have gone on to thriving careers in music. Teaching comes with tremendous responsibility especially when preparing a student for a professional life in music.”

My goals as a teacher include the following;

  •  Develop a healthy, free approach to playing the cello through body awareness and developing a more mindful approach to practicing.

  • Build a solid technical foundation which allows for more confident performing.

  • Help students find their musical “voice”.

  • Inspire a curiosity about the music and composers we perform.

  • Make it a mission to perform music by underrepresented composers.

  • Treat each student as a unique individual and help them unlock their full potential.

  • Mentor and guide students to create a path towards their professional goals.
